In scripture we find God often called his people to consecrate themselves when He was about to move. To prepare ourselves for this new season, it is essential that we too position our hearts and spirits for what God has in store for us by drawing close to God. 


Fasting is sacrificing something dear to you and replacing it with more of God (bible reading, praying, worshipping, surrender & confession). For the next three weeks, we will be partaking in a Daniel Fast as a church body in order to prepare for the NEW things God is about to do in our lives.


This year, we started a new theme titled Culture Shock: Things Are Shifting. The theme is centered around Isaiah 43: 18-19:

We’ve equipped you with this daily prayer and reading guide to inspire you and help you focus on Jesus. Allow God’s word to swallow your past in order to live the future God intends for you.





 

iNstructions for fasting & consecration:

Important Note: Fasting requires reasonable precautions. If you have any health concerns, please consult your physician prior to beginning your fast, especially if you are taking any medication, have a chronic condition, or are pregnant or nursing a baby.


(1) Commit these 21 days to the Lord. Let this be a time when you sincerely and earnestly connect with God thanking Him for what He has done in your life.


(2) Read the scriptures for each day.


(3) Meditate on the key verses through the day – meaning think about it, talk about it, ponder over it, and get it into your spirit man – for His word is a light unto our path.


(4) Spend at least 15 minutes with God every day. Pray and meditate on the Thanksgiving Prayer.


(5) The definition of fasting is to “restrict food for a spiritual purpose”. The Daniel Fast is a great model to follow and one that is extremely effective for spiritual focus, bodily discipline, and purification of the body and soul. It brings health to every part of you! You are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in body. The Daniel Fast eating plan is a vegan diet with even more restrictions. It is a vegetable-based program with no sweeteners, chemicals, and caffeine, alcohol or leavening products. The fasting guidelines are derived from two records of the Prophet Daniel’s fasting experiences (found in Daniel 1:8-17 and 10:2, 3). We encourage you to read these chapters so you can understand more about Daniel and his purpose for fasting. Turn off distractions (i.e. TV, Social Media, Books, Activities that distract you from spending time with God, etc.)

The Holy Spirit

Take this week to focus on the Holy Spirit. Do you ever wish that Jesus was with you every day to help you make decisions or guide you? Good news- He is there! The Holy Spirit is your guide, your counselor, and He intercedes on your behalf. The same Holy Spirit that fell over the disciples during the day of Pentecost is the same Holy Spirit you have access to each day. Meditate on the verses below and take some time to dwell in His presence.

BE TRANSFORMED



Take this week to focus on allowing the Holy Spirit to transform your heart and mind. We are to reflect Christ in every area of our lives. May our hearts break for what breaks His and may we be intentional about inviting Him to inhabit everything we do. Ask God to transform every area in your life that does not reflect Him and then be prepared to walk in freedom!

WALK IN FREEDOM


As we wrap up the last week of the fast, take some time to focus on walking in freedom. Christ set you free when He died on the cross, therefore live your life as such! When we leave the past behind, the enemy will try to get us to go back to our old ways- the good news is that through Christ we are already free and the past has no hold on us. Meditate on the verses below and walk in freedom. You are free!
