How to Exercise Your Authority as a Believer:

Please note that these steps are interconnected and can be practiced simultaneously. For instance, you can resist the enemy while putting on the armor of God, or pray and fast while engaging in worship. Embrace a holistic approach, allowing each step to reinforce the others, and stay responsive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit as you exercise your authority.

1. Submit to God’s Authority: Acknowledge God’s sovereignty over your life. This is the foundation for your spiritual authority.
“Submit yourselves therefore to God.” (James 4:7a)

2. Be Led by the Holy Spirit: Trust in the Holy Spirit for guidance and empowerment; don’t rely solely on your own strength.
“But you are not in the flesh, you are in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you.” (Romans 8:9)

3. Stand Firm in Faith: Believe in Christ's victory and your authority as a believer. Remember that Jesus has already triumphed over the enemy.
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)

4. Put On the Armor of God: Equip yourself daily with truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, the Word, and prayer as outlined in Ephesians 6:10–18.
“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:11)

5. Resist the Enemy Actively: When faced with temptation or attack, consciously reject the enemy’s lies.
“Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7b)

6. Use the Word of God:
Speak Scripture out loud to counter lies and accusations, just as Jesus did when tempted.
“But he answered, ‘It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Matthew 4:4)

7. Command the Enemy to Leave in Jesus’ Name: Use the authority Christ gave you to command any demonic force or oppression to depart.
“And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will cast out demons...” (Mark 16:17)

8. Pray and Fast: Engage in consistent prayer and, when led, fasting to strengthen your spirit and heighten your sensitivity to God’s voice.
“But the Lord said, ‘This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer and fasting.’” (Matthew 17:21)

9. Draw Near to God: Foster intimacy with God through worship, thanksgiving, and daily fellowship. The enemy cannot withstand God’s presence.
“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” (James 4:8a)

10. Stay Alert and Watchful: Be aware of spiritual deception and guard your thoughts and actions. Always remain vigilant.
“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion...” (1 Peter 5:8)

11. Confess and Renounce Sin: Repent of any known sin to close doors that may allow the enemy to gain a foothold.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins...” (1 John 1:9)

12. Invite the Holy Spirit to Fill You: After resisting and commanding the enemy to leave, ask the Holy Spirit to fill and protect you.
“And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit...” (Ephesians 5:18)

13. Continue in Worship and Thanksgiving: Maintain a lifestyle of praise to keep your focus on God rather than the enemy.
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances...” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
